Advanced Modeling Features (2 days)

This two day course is suitable for anyone with experience modeling with COMSOL Multiphysics; the goal is to examine the more advanced features that can enhance your modeling. The focus is also to learn about the new and unique modeling capabilities that are available with COMSOL Multiphysics 4. By the end of this course, you will feel comfortable with most of the commands available on the COMSOL Desktop and be able to solve advanced problems with COMSOL in a productive manner.

The course topics* covered are:

• The mathematics behind the finite element method
• Things to consider when coupling different types of physics
• Linear and nonlinear solvers, what they do, and how best to use them
• Optimal use of solvers for large 3D models
• Defining your own partial differential equations
• Adding ODEs to your problem
• Parameterization of geometry and variables
• Moving boundaries
• Optimization and sensitivity
• Applying material properties from analytical expressions or measured data
• Import of geometries from external CAD software
• Best practices for meshing geometry
• Advanced results analysis
• Finding and eliminating errors in the model
• We also encourage you to bring your own modeling problems for discussion with one of our specialists

Instructor

VP of Engineering Niklas Rom COMSOL Niklas Rom received his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. He has prior experience from the thermal power industry. Niklas has worked 10 years as VP Engineering at COMSOL, with responsibility for customer support, training, and product development.
