Shape Optimization of a 3D Tesla Microvalve

Tesla microvalves exploit the non-linear nature of inertial flow to create anisotropic flow resistance. They can be used as robust valves owing to their passive working mechanism, but for many applications the diodicity is too low. Two-dimensional simulations and optimization over-estimate the diodicity, if the channel height is similar to the other dimensions of the device. This model demonstrates 3D shape optimization at a Reynolds number of 200. Import/export of the design is combined with a model method, so inverted elements can be avoided even though the geometry deformations are large.
