Free convection in a vertical square cavity filled with a fluid saturated porous medium is investigated numerically by means of the software package FEMLAB 3.1i.
The cavity has isothermal walls and is heated by an internal concentric circular boundary subjected to a uniform heat flux. The porous medium satisfies the Darcy law and the validity of the Boussinesq approximation is invoked.
Tests to check that the solution is grid independent as well as independent from the accuracy parameter are performed. In particular, it is shown that FEMLAB generally produces four digit accurate results for all the tested quantities.
