Researching with the CAD Import Module
The CAD Import Module allows researchers to concentrate on the physics and results from a model rather than the geometric implementation. Supporting popular CAD file formats (STEP (.stp), IGES (.igs), SAT® (.sat) and Parasolid® (.x_t), this module also features:
- Interactive defeaturing—Users can remove small and sliver faces, fillets, and spikes by interacting directly with the geometry. Ideal for generating more-uniform and smaller meshes.
- Assemblies: Import assemblies directly from a CAD package, or generate assemblies from imported geometries. This allows for far greater freedom in defining different physics, conditions or material properties on different parts. Furthermore, this allows for flexible, interactive meshing, where different parts can be meshed separately but are still coupled directly to their adjacent parts.
- Specialized add-ons—Modules specific to individual CAD packages are available to ease the interaction between modeling and geometric design. These include the CATIA® V4 and V5, Autodesk Inventor®, and Pro/ENGINEER® CAD packages.
