Acoustics modeling
The Acoustics Module is a complete modeling environment for linear wave-like phenomena in fluids
and structures. A set of suitable boundary conditions, for example PMLs (perfectly matched layers),
makes it easy to handle infinite surroundings. Also, far-field integral processing increases the
classes of problems you can solve. During the full-day Acoustics Modeling Course, you will choose
between exercises including the following:
- Study the near- and far-field acoustic pressure distribution of a down-firing sub woofer. This model introduces you to many important aspects of acoustics modeling in COMSOL Multiphysics
- Simulate inductive and resistive sound damping in a model of an automotive muffler
- Learn how to model bidirectional acoustic-structure interaction
- Try the Ultraweak method in an ultrasound scattering model
- In a model of a piezoacoustic transducer, see how an applied AC voltage creates sound
- Set up a realistic multiphysics loudspeaker model including the driver mechanism and the interaction between the cone and the air
The course covers the following topics, and more:
- Fundamental equations in fluids and solids
- The relation between the time domain and the frequency domain
- Meshing techniques and rules of thumb for resolving acoustic waves
- The Ultraweak method for effectively solving problems with small wavelengths
- Rundown of boundary conditions, including those for open and fluid-structure boundaries
- PMLs: how they work, when and how to use them
- Model the near-field, evaluate the pressure in the far-field and everywhere else
- Visualization and data extraction
