Modeling heat transfer in container of microspheres

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi fellow COMSOL users,

I'm trying to model heat transfer in a quartz vial containing ceramic microspheres with diameters of 20-30 um. The aim is to determine whether the temperature gets high enough for phase change to occur, leading to the formation of large clumps after the microspheres have cooled. Since I have access to a server with 114 cores and 750+ GB RAM, I approached the problem by setting up a 2D Axisymmetric model with a 500x500 array of microspheres; however, I keep getting an "out of memory" error message everytime I try to build the geometry.

Is there a better way to approach this model?
