Microwave Heating of a Cancer Tumor
Application ID: 30
Electromagnetic heating is ideally suited for modeling in COMSOL Multiphysics. This model shows the area of hyperthermic oncology but the modeling issues and techniques are generally applicable to any problem involving electromagnetic heating.
The purpose of this model is to compute the radiation field and the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) in liver tissue for a thin coaxial slot antenna used in microwave coagulation therapy. A simulation of the resulting temperature distribution in the liver is also included.
This application was built using the following:Heat Transfer Module RF Module
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on the physics interfaces that define it. Particular physics interfaces may be common to several products (see the Specification Chart for more details). To determine the right combination of products for your project, you should evaluate all of your needs in light of each product's capabilities, consultation with the COMSOL Sales and Support teams, and the use of an evaluation license.
